Dialogue

Two people without a shared language talking with one phone between them, turn by turn, each hearing the other in their own language.

The dialogue is for a conversation between two people who don't share a language: at a reception desk, a pharmacy, a parents' meeting, a site office or a home visit. One phone lies on the table between them. Each speaks in turn, and the other sees and hears it in their own language.

It's on every plan. It costs a price per minute of recorded speech (the current price is on the pricing page), taken from the organization's balance like interpretation.

Starting a dialogue

  1. In the dashboard, open Dialogue.
  2. Choose the language of the person holding the phone (You (bottom of the screen)) and the other person's language (The other person (top of the screen)). Swap languages switches them.
  3. Press Start. The screen splits in two; the top half is turned upside down to face the person opposite.

The languages are remembered for the next dialogue on the same phone.

Taking turns

  1. Tap your microphone, speak, and tap again when you're done. A turn can be up to two minutes; at two minutes it stops and is sent by itself.
  2. Spiiksi turns it into text, translates it into the other language, and reads it aloud in a voice of its own for each side.
  3. The other person's half shows the translation in large text, and your half shows what you said, so you can see it was heard right. Then it's their turn.

Only one person can speak at a time. The speaker button switches reading aloud off and on, for example in a quiet place where reading is enough. End closes the dialogue.

Price

You pay only for the speech you record, by the second, at the dialogue's price per minute. The bar in the middle of the screen shows what the dialogue has cost so far and the balance left. A turn in which nothing was heard costs nothing. When the balance runs out, the dialogue says so; top up to continue.

Anyone who can create events in the organization can use the dialogue on its balance.

Privacy

The recording, the text and the voice exist only for the moment a turn is translated: Spiiksi doesn't keep them. The conversation stays on the phone until End is pressed. Only the length of each turn and its cost are recorded, for billing. The speech is sent to OpenAI to transcribe, translate and read it aloud, as the interpretation is (Privacy, recordings and security).

Limits worth knowing

  • The translation is made by AI and can contain mistakes, which the screen says. For a medical or legal matter where a mistake could cause harm, a professional interpreter may be the better choice.
  • Background noise and speaking over each other make mistakes likelier. Speak one at a time, close to the phone.
  • The dialogue is for two people. For one speaker and many listeners, use an event.
